Quinlisk elected and honored at recent USATF Annual Meeting

Adirondack president was elected new national chair or Masters Long Distance Running and elected into the USATF Masters Long Distance Running Hall of Fame

At the recent USATF Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, USATF Adirdonack president Bill Quinlisk was recognized twice by his peers.

He was first recongized by being elected to the USATF Masters Long Distance Running Hall of Fame in the contributor category.  Quinlisk became involved with USATF Masters LDR in 1997 at the Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX. One of his first proposals was to establish the Masters Harrier of the Year awards and he has chaired  the selection committee since then. He has served as the national Masters Cross Country Representative continuously since 2005. He has been elected Vice-Chairman of Masters LDR since 2009. Bill also serves as a member of the Cross Country Council Executive Committee.

He was later elected to serve the remainder of the term as Masters LDR Committee chair, replacing Lloyd Hanson who recently resigned due to health issues. Quinlisk will serve as the chair through December 2024.  Since 2009, Quinlisk has served as Masters LDR Vice-Chair under three different chairs and will continue to serve as the Masters Cross Country Council representative.

Bill Quinlisk - full bio

Bill Quinlisk has been involved in Athletics since 1965 as a participant, Coach, Administrator and Officer.  He has organized hundreds of youth, high school, college and road races, open track & field meets and cross country events mostly in the Rochester, NY area. He has coached at the High School and College level.  He served as a long-time Board member and officer in the USATF Niagara Association culminating in 2011 with a term as President. Upon retirement and a move to the Albany, NY area, Bill continued his involvement as a USATF Adirondack Association Board member and officer including 2 terms as the USATF Adirondack Association President (2019-2022). He was the founding President of both the Greater Rochester Track Club (1973-1983) and the Genesee Valley Harriers (1996-2006). He was the race director for six USATF National Cross Country Championships including the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in 2005. 


Quinlisk became involved with USATF Masters LDR in 1997 at the Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX. He has been a certified NY State High School track and field official since 1973. He is a past President of the Genesee Valley Certified High School Track & Field and Cross Country Officials Organization (Rochester, NY) and is still their Rules’ Interpreter. He is a USATF Master-level LDR Referee and has served as Referee for over 100 USATF National LDR and Cross Country Open and Master Championships. 


His awards include:

  • ​1977 NAIA District 31 Cross Country Coach of the Year (St. John Fisher College) 
  • 1987 Rochester City-Catholic High School League, Track & Field Coach of the Year Award (McQuaid Jesuit HS, Rochester, NY)
  • 1987 Greater Rochester Track Club Hall of Fame inductee (Rochester, NY)
  • 1990 Monroe County High School League, Track & Field Coach of the Year Award (Greece Olympia HS, Rochester, NY)
  • 2011 USATF Doris Heritage Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Sport of Cross Country 
  • 2012 USATF Otto Essig Award for Meritorious Service to Masters Long Distance Running 
  • 2021 USATF Adirondack Association Official of the Year Award
