Sascha Scott breaks U.S. masters 1 mile record

On Thursday (22-Jul) at the Syracuse Chargers All-Comers Meet #2 in Cazenovia, N.Y., Sascha Scott, 45, of Syracuse, N.Y. broke the exisiting U.S. 1 mile (women's 45-49) record.  Her time of 4:53.32 broke the former record of 4:56.28 set in 2016 by Kris Paaso.  Upon ratification by USATF the time will be officially recognized as the new record.

IN THEIR WORDS - SASCHA SCOTT

I am thrilled to have run the 45-59 AR for the mile, which I was aiming to break this summer. I'm especially happy to have run the record time in central New York. I went for the record at the Summer Penn Relays and missed it by .6 seconds. When I saw the Syracuse Chargers summer meets were offering a mile four days later, I asked if I could try there. Pat Leone of Leone Timing, with the help  of the Chargers and USATF Adirondack, made sure the meet was certified and the track was prepared for a record attempt. I can't thank them enough. Two local runners--Andrew Dionne and AJ Beers--registered for the meet so I had people to run with. We ran through the race at record pace, and then negative split the second half to run well under the record time. I'm truly grateful for the Syracuse running community!
